Questions

What does the IRS want in a mileage log?

IRS Publication 463 asks you to record the miles for each business use of your vehicle, the date, where you went and the business purpose, at or near the time of the trip. It also asks for your total miles for the year, which is why the log has odometer readings.

What is the 2026 standard mileage rate?

72.5 cents a mile for business use in 2026, per the IRS. That is up 2.5 cents from 70 cents in 2025.

Can I count the drive from home to my first job?

It depends on where your main place of business is. Publication 463 explains when travel from home counts. This isn't tax advice; ask your tax preparer.

Where are my trips saved?

Only in this browser, on this device. Nothing is sent to EosLog. If you clear your browser data or switch phones, the log is gone, so download the PDF or the spreadsheet now and then as a backup.

Can I bring in trips from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Save it as a CSV with the columns date, from, to, purpose and miles, in that order. A header row is fine, and an optional sixth column marks a round trip with yes or no. Rows without a date or miles are skipped, and the tool tells you which ones.
